Our journey began when we happened to be present as an abandoned puppy, nearly hairless from skin mange, was presented to a local kill shelter. When the shelter attendant flashed a “thumbs down” sign condemning him to death we literally whisked him away from death row, treated his mange, and found him the greatest home, where he has lived, without a single “bad hair day”, for the past 13 years!!!

If you question “Why put so much time, effort, and expense into an animal with problems when there are so many healthy strays that need to be adopted?” Well, the answer is simply because he came our way, as so many others have before him, some in perfect health and others with medical and behavioral problems.

To those who share a passion for animals and cannot imagine a life without them, there is no bartering with one’s love or compassion other than doing the right thing. For those who know us, and especially those who have adopted one of our orphans, the question of treating a stray with imperfections is often anticipated. The very cornerstone of Pet-I-Care’s commitment and what sets us apart, is that for any animal acquired from our program, the adoption process is just the beginning; and even when the issues are resolved, Pet-I-Care’s commitment never ends.

Pet-I-Care depends on the collective efforts of our volunteer’s, our foster homes, veterinarians, trainers and behaviorists. However, the most important factor that allows us to continue our work comes from the support we receive from you. Our journey continues only because of your generosity, whether it be by donating money or by giving of one’s time to work with our orphans. Please see our "wish list" for information on how you can help. It lists things you can do for Pet-I-Care that will change a pet’s life and perhaps your life, forever. Your support is all we have to make our adoptions happen.

Our dream, with your support, is to develop a facility in Manhattan large enough to accommodate a state-of-art adoption, veterinary, and training program that encompasses what we know Pet-I-Care has the potential to become. We will always be family to all our orphans and supporter’s who have believed and shared in our commitment, but still… “There’s No Place Like Home”
